Contemplative and Embodied Worship to Mediate Faith Stage Transition in YWAM
Abstract
This article summarizes a master’s capstone project exploring facilitation of upward faith stage transition and healthier spiritual formation of young adults in Youth With A Mission's Discipleship Training School in two contexts in Africa and Asia. Emphasis is placed on the critical exploration of belief systems, self-reflection, and the practice of embodied and contemplative spiritual rhythms emphasizing awareness, presence, silence, rest, and beholding (sanctified imagination). The project was implemented through the creation, facilitation, and evaluation of a curriculum called Life as a Worship Experience, involving classroom as well as small group and one-on-one formats in five and six week timeframes. Project evaluation includes recommendations for institutions like YWAM in facilitating upward faith transition.
